Foligno, Greenway key to Wild’s hot stretch

Although Minnesota lost its six-game winning streak Monday night, the Wild extended their point streak to seven contests, grabbing one point in an overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Over the Wild’s red-hot seven-game stretch, Marcus Foligno leads the team with five goals, four of those in even strength. Teammates Joel Eriksson Ek, Kevin Fiala, Kirill Kaprizov, Nico Sturm and Mats Zuccarello chipped in three goals apiece.

In total, the Wild have scored 28 even-strength goals during their seven-game point streak, which is the most in franchise history as well as the 2021 NHL season over a seven-game span.

Minnesota tallied 25 goals in a seven-game span six other times in team history, including once last season, but never surpassed the quarter-century mark.

After the scoring surge, the Wild now rank 10th in the NHL with a 3.2 goals-per-game average. And that’s without much of a power-play threat. The Wild have scored the fewest power-play goals (5) in the NHL this season and rank dead last in power-play percentage (7.9%). They’ve scored 88.5% of their goals at even strength, which would be the highest clip in an NHL season since 1950-51.

But back to the playmakers.

Foligno has three multi-point outings in his last five games, including two goals and an assist against the Golden Knights on Monday. He’s registered four goals and three assists (seven points) in that span, the most productive stretch in his Wild career. Foligno tallied seven points in five games for Buffalo back in the 2011-12 campaign.

But it hasn’t just been Foligno who’s rolling for head coach Dean Evason’s lineup. Jordan Greenway has points in three straight games. Though 19 contests this season, Greenway has stacked up three goals and 12 assists (15 points). He’s never had more than seven points over the opening 19 contests of a season.

Foligno, Greenway and the Wild will get a chance at revenge Wednesday night when the Wild take on the Golden Knights at 9 p.m.

The game will be televised on FOX Sports North PLUS. Tune in to “Wild Live” at 8:30 p.m.
